The openKylin community joins hands with T-HEAD to create a new RISC-V ecosystem!

2023-03-06 10:41:37

On March 2, with the theme of "openness and connection", the first Black Iron RISC-V Ecological Conference organized by Alibaba T-HEAD Semiconductor was held in Shanghai. Representatives of hundreds of companies and institutions including openKylin, Haier, Alipay, Netease Youdao, Skyworth Coocaa, etc. gathered together. openKylin, as the top community of domestic desktop operating systems, will work with participating partners to study the future trend of RISC-V and jointly promote the innovation ecology of a new generation of operating systems.

openKylin: Gather new ecology, explore new future

Zhu Chen, chairman of the openKylin community, was invited to attend the conference and share the theme of "openKylin community joins hands with T-HEAD to help RISC-V new ecology". Since the establishment of the community in June 2022, the openKylin community has gathered more than 150 members, more than 2,000 people have registered as community developers, emerged nearly 60 SIG groups, and had attracted more than 700,000 community users. The rapid growth of the community benefits from the open and equal collaboration model of the community, the forward-looking layout of the innovation ecology, and the strong alliance among community partners.

Zhu Chen pointed out that in terms of controllable open source, independent development, independent construction, innovative development, and ecological source , the openKylin community has achieved certain results and accumulated, laying a solid foundation for the community to grow into an international top open source community.

At the level of RISC-V ecological layout, the community will continue to invest. At present, it has carried out in-depth cooperation with hardware and software manufacturers such as T-HEAD and Dingding, supporting the smooth experience of commercial IM (instant messaging) for the first time. At the same time, openKylin is the first to realize the operating system community in the RISC-V ecosystem through Kirin's self-developed applications and open source software ecology such as Firefox, which basically meets basic office and daily usage scenarios.

T-HEAD: strong alliance, win-win future

At the meeting, Meng Jianyi, vice president of T-HEAD Semiconductor, focused on the progress of innovation and cooperation with the openKylin community in the RISC-V ecosystem. Based on the Infrastructure platform of the Black Iron CPU+openKylin operating system, the three parties worked together to complete 27,000+ files The compilation of core components such as Qt&CEF and the construction of 17 third-party libraries have realized the smooth operation of large-scale commercial IM for the first time on the RISC-V architecture . Meng Jianyi said that relying on the RISC-V SIG of the openKylin community to promote the integration and development of the openKylin community and RISC-V ecology, it is expected to form a higher level ecology.

In the interactive exhibition area of  this event, openKylin is equipped with T-HEAD Yingying 1520 development board. The graphics library can call the on-chip GPU for hard decoding, and smoothly support basic office work and audio and video playback. From the aspects of kernel & support performance, system scalability, ecological compatibility, power consumption performance optimization, etc., openKylin joined hands with T-HEAD to realize a big step in the RISC-V ecosystem that is truly usable. At the scene, the guests gathered in front of the community booth to experience it first-hand, and communicated about their feelings. They are very optimistic about the future development of openKylin.

At present, 10 billion processors using the RISC-V architecture have been shipped, and relevant data predicts that the number will exceed 80 billion by 2025. David Patterson, the father of RISC-V and winner of the Turing Award, witnessed the vigorous development of the RISC-V ecosystem. He said at the meeting: "From embedded, to various types of computers, and finally to mainframes, I think, 3 to 5 Years later, RISC-V will be everywhere!"

Open source and openness are the core of RISC-V ecological construction, which coincides with the openKylin community governance philosophy. openKylin will continue to make efforts in the field of RISC-V, cultivate root technology with root community, promote new ecology with root technology, create excellent new experience with new ecology, provide new choices with new experience, in version iteration, ecological adaptation, performance optimization , Project incubation, intellectual property rights and other aspects join forces with more partners to continue to promote the prosperity of the new generation of innovative operating system ecology.
