openKylin China-Africa Workshop Successfully Concluded in Shenzhen
On April 18, the China-Africa Digital Transformation and Integration Workshop was successfully held in Shenzhen. Organized by the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) under China’s Ministry of Commerce, and co-hosted by the OpenAtom Open Source Foundation and the openKylin community, the event welcomed over 30 government technology officials from 11 African countries, including Egypt, Ethiopia, and South Africa. Through technical visits, case studies, and thematic discussions, the participants explored practical ways open-source technologies can support Africa’s digital transformation.
During the event, the African delegation visited the Shenzhen branch of Kylin Software. Wu Hengbin, Director at Kylin Software, provided an in-depth overview of the development and application of open-source operating systems in China.
The workshop highlighted trends and hands-on experiences in open-source development. Representatives from the openKylin community, Wen Jiayi and Zhang Tianxiong, shared updates on the community’s progress in multilingual adaptation and AI capabilities, and presented collaborative digital infrastructure projects in Africa. Attendees engaged in meaningful discussions on local digital infrastructure needs, models for cross-border tech collaboration, and how community-driven development supports localized innovation. There was broad consensus that open and transparent technical exchange is key to advancing international cooperation.
Looking ahead, openKylin will continue to strengthen its collaborative model of "co-developing technical standards, co-cultivating talent pipelines, and co-creating application scenarios," contributing open-source momentum to a more inclusive and accessible Digital Silk Road.
