The event was co-hosted by Open Source China and Xuexinshe, with openKylin as a co-organizer, themed "Entering Open Source and AI, Build a Real Project in One Day," featuring technical lectures, hands-on development sessions, and other activities. The openKylin community combined the morning's technical sharing with the afternoon's practical course, linking community introduction, product experience, and contribution guidance to support teachers and students from understanding open source to participating in open source.

Sharing openKylin Progress, Exploring AI Integration

In the morning, Ma Fajun, head of openKylin ecosystem cooperation, delivered a presentation titled "Getting to Know openKylin: Technology, Ecosystem, and Future," introducing the community's development history, technological direction, and ecosystem building achievements.

openKylin has gathered over 2,600 organizational members, more than 30,000 developers, over 140 university stations, established 158 technical SIG groups, and achieved system deployments exceeding 24 million. The community has been covered by CCTV for three consecutive years, honored as one of the "Top Ten National Treasures of Central Enterprises" and the "CCF Science and Technology Progress Special Prize," included in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' "List of SCO Achievements," and recognized by international industry organizations such as the RISC-V Foundation.

Ma Fajun focused on the deep integration of AI and the operating system in openKylin version 3.0. This version comes pre-installed with the KylinBot agent framework and system skills, desktop GUI skills, natively supporting the operation of multiple mainstream agents such as WorkBuddy, SenseTime Raccoon, and OpenClaw, providing a foundation for developers to explore synergy between agents and desktop systems. He also invited university teachers and students to participate in the open co-construction of the openKylin Skill ecosystem, turning learning ideas into concrete development practices.

Understand contribution paths and participate in open source practices.

In the afternoon, openKylin Ecosystem Development Manager Cao Dandan delivered a themed course titled "Practicing openKylin: Experience, Development, and Contribution," starting from fundamental concepts of open source, gradually introducing community participation methods and contribution paths, and explaining through practical projects.

For students new to open source, she introduced different ways to participate in community contributions, starting with downloading and experiencing openKylin, identifying issues during use, providing feedback, and gradually deepening into work such as testing, documentation improvement, and code development. Non-code contributions like translation, design, and promotion are also important parts of community building.

Deepen university-community exchanges to support talent cultivation.

Universities are important grounds for the growth of open source talents, while open source communities provide practice spaces for students to engage with real technical needs and participate in project collaboration. Through this visit to the School of Software at Shandong University, the openKylin community brought operating system technology progress and community contribution practices to campus, offering exchange opportunities for teachers and students to learn about domestic open source operating systems and explore the integration of teaching, research, and community projects.

From understanding the project and experiencing the product, to learning about development directions and participating in community contributions, openKylin aims to help more young developers comprehend open source and build their capabilities through practice, and take part in building the domestic open-source operating system and application ecosystem through exchanges with university faculty and students.

We welcome all teachers and students to download and experience openKylin, find your own contribution direction through usage, communication, and collaboration, and explore more possibilities of operating systems and AI together with the community.
